Burrun Dalai are a Government funded not for profit, Aboriginal community controlled organisation providing support to Aboriginal children and young people, their birth families and foster families.
Burrun Dalai’s vision is to maintain Aboriginal family values, ensuring this objective has traditionally involved the extended family members and community members in the care and development of children. The organisation has offices in Kempsey, Taree and Tamworth.
Burrun Dalai was a maintained client with Integer and had grown considerably in the last decade from 3 employees and a single location to over 75 with 3 geographically spread offices.
The existing support service of fortnightly visits became unproductive and intrusive whilst sporadic peaks in support costs when reacting to IT requests became difficult to financially forecast. The service was no longer fit for purpose.
The Integer helpdesk support agent was already installed across the IT estate as part of the existing service and was auditing the 3 office locations.
An onsite project visit to the Tamworth office, working alongside the Burrun Dalai IT Coordinator, removed the in house terminal service environment for faster internet speeds as well as identifying recurring sign on issues and available bandwidth being choked by desktop user habits.
Integer scoped out the whole environment providing detailed audit information of hardware age, operating systems installed and application software. We implemented a Proactive Managed Service for both the server and desktop environments as well as managing the onsite Network Attached Storage (NAS) and incremental back up software. Our recommended Anti-Virus software was deployed as well as protecting the IT environment further with a Cloud Base Spam filter and DNS blocking of certain non-work related websites. With the support agent now scheduling out of hours IT service requirements and patch updates and alerting the helpdesk to issues the need to be physically on site for routine maintenance has evaporated apart from new installation work.
Burrun Dalai and Integer have taken control of historical IT sprawl with a financially consistent proactive support model, whereby employee productivity is enhanced. The preemptive alerting of issues via our monitoring software is less intrusive and time consuming. The scheduling of routine IT updates to occur overnight no longer interrupts extremely busy people carrying out the important roles within the organisation.
Standards have been set for the lifecycle of IT hardware and supportable software to be able to create realistic annual replacement IT budget calculations.
Employee time saved by preventing over 100,000 spam emails per month arriving in mailboxes, some of which carrying malicious payloads and restricting access to undesirable sites has been enormous.
With newly installed NAS devices, we have created incremental back up plans for both the physical and virtual servers, all aimed of reducing human intervention and more importantly reducing the real time recovery objective to as little time as possible.
